On July 12, at Shone Farm, Santa Rosa Junior College and the Wild Goat Foundation launched the WG Edge scholarship program. This program provides significant scholarship support for four local young women to study agriculture at SRJC, and connects them with a “village” of teachers, mentors, and internship sponsors who can guide, inspire, and open doors for them.
WG Edge was created out of gratitude to the local agricultural community by Judy Jordan, formerly of J Vineyards and Winery and founder of Geodesy Wine, with the goal of advancing the next generation. A core tenet of the program is that connectivity is key to increasing participants’ confidence, career mobility and community impact.
The collaboration with SRJC emerged from talks between Judy Jordan and Benjamin Goldstein, Dean of Agriculture and Natural Resources, out of a mutual desire to support local students studying agriculture and to meet a growing demand for training in precision agriculture and agricultural technology.
Ale Enriquez has been accepted at Arizona State University! Through her work at Starbucks, she earned a scholarship to ASU Online, which “has been named #1 in the U.S. for innovation for five consecutive years, ahead of Stanford and MIT.”
August 26, 2019, Santa Rosa, CA—The Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC) Agriculture Department is developing a new Hemp Agriculture program that will train students in the cultivation of hemp (Cannabis sativa L.), with a goal of launching the program in fall 2020. SRJC is the first community college in California to develop a certificate and degree program focused on hemp.
Beginning spring 2020, students can take hemp-focused courses within the existing SRJC Sustainable Agriculture and Horticulture programs. Courses include Introduction to Plant Science, Soil and Plant Nutrition, Integrated Pest Management, Organic Crop Planning and Production, and several other courses that will be included in the new Hemp Agriculture certificate and degree.

For four years, Judy Jordan has been working on her next act.
During that time, many of her friends and fellow colleagues from the North Coast wine world kept asking about the next chapter for Jordan, the 57-year-old Sonoma County resident who sold her beloved J Vineyards and Winery in March 2015 to E. & J. Gallo Winery.
And she kept them waiting and waiting. But there is a good reason that her Geodesy Wine company has taken so long to come to fruition. It’s much more than a boutique winery that offers premium chardonnay and pinot noir that starts around $75 a bottle. It’s also part of a philanthropic endeavor with an ambitious aim to transform the lives of young local women whose families work in agriculture.
“The charity grows up side by side (with the winery),” Jordan said in an interview. “Let’s see if we can put our focus of the mentorship program at the center and build the winery and the team and the expertise around that.”
